Introducing Coexistence Advocates

Updated: Jun 8, 2023

Read on for a brief overview of our mission and vision (and some trivia about Sir David Attenborough).

Birds-of-paradise, such as this lesser bird-of-paradise (Paridisaea minor), are among Sir David's favorite taxa.

We are officially launching our website and social media channels today, which—by no coincidence—also happens to be Sir David Attenborough's birthday.

Our Mission and Vision

Our goal is to help individuals, organizations, businesses, and communities develop nature-positive economies. We’re dedicated to promoting sustainable solutions that increase biodiversity conservation, while also helping people. Our approach combines education, advocacy, and logistical support for projects, and we’re committed to helping our partners create long-term, positive change in their communities. Over the coming weeks and months we'll be expanding our website content as we engage with more partners to develop and assist with projects.

Sir David Attenborough

Sir David is one of nature's greatest champions, and he turned 97 today. In honor of his birthday, we're sharing three of our favorite facts about him, and three of our favorite quotes by him.

Facts

  • Sir David has more than fifty taxa named after him, including beetles, trees, a pitcher plant, and a 560-million-year-old creature believed to be the first animal predator.

  • He is the only person to have won British Academy Film and Television Awards for work in black and white, color, high-definition, 3D, and 4K.

  • In 2022, Sir David received the "Champions of the Earth Lifetime Achievement Award" from the United Nations Environment Programme, for his "dedication to research, documentation, and advocacy for the protection of nature and its restoration."

Quotes

  • "No one will protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced."

  • "The truth is: the natural world is changing. And we are totally dependent on that world. It provides our food, water and air. It is the most precious thing we have and we need to defend it."

  • "I just wish the world was twice as big and half of it was still unexplored."

Happy birthday, Sir David, and thank you for all that you've done and continue to do for people and nature!
